BioDetect is a University of Patras spin-off (established 2025) providing advanced molecular diagnostics for aquatic, animal and environmental health. Grown from the Laboratory of Systems Microbiology and Applied Genomics and hosted at Patras Science Park, the company delivers rapid, accurate detection of bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic threats across five domains — aquaculture, veterinary, environmental, food and vector surveillance — returning clear, actionable reports. It combines microscopy, histology, microbiology and molecular methods (PCR, qPCR and next-generation sequencing), and, where it supports decision-making, characterises strains and tests antibiotic susceptibility. BioDetect also develops next-generation fish vaccines through reverse vaccinology, under an exclusive research agreement with Aquatreck Animal Health SL (Spain). Trusted by aquaculture producers across Greece and the Mediterranean and working within a One Health framework.
